Community

The Toronto Board of Rabbis is the voice of mainstream religious Judaism as it relates to governmental policy positions. The Board in the coming years will continue to monitor the behaviour of our city, province and school boards on issues tht affect Jewish life and public wefare As a result, the Toronto Board of Rabbis involves itself in legislation, tax issues, and other public matters touching the Jewish religious community.

In keeping with Jewish teachings about helping those in need become self-sufficient, the Toronto Board of Rabbis has endorsed the efforts of Campaign 2000 to reduce child poverty by 25% in the next five years.

We also worked closely with the other faith groups and other Jewish agencies in opposing unfair and unlawful tax scheme that supports Catholic Schools in this province, and not other faith based religious schools.

Because of our community involvement, the Board is invariably invited to participate in major public events and significant ceremonials as the representative of mainstream religious Jewry.

Jewish Communal Network

The Toronto Board of Rabbis is a beneficiary agency of UJA-Federation of Toronto, and its members sit on some very important committees, helping to shape policies of that organization. The Board is a member of the Christian Jewish Dialogue of Toronto. We also assist in the distribution of hundreds of High Holyday tickets to needy individuals through the network of our Synagogues. We are also proud of our work with national agencies, such as CJC, State of Israel Bonds, JNF and Birthright Israel in a variety of domestic and foreign areas.

Radio & Television

The members of the Toronto Board of Rabbis are all ordained from recognized rabbinic seminaries from throughout the Jewish world. This peer recognition maintains the highest level of rabbinic professionalism and responsibility. It also insures that rabbis chosen to represent the community are of the highest educational calibre. For this reason, the members of the Toronto Board of Rabbis can be seen and heard on radio, television and their writings are frequently seen in newspapers and magazines. If you need a rabbi for a media appearance please contact our executive director at information@torontoboardofrabbis.org

Rabbi Search Service

The RSS is a project of the Toronto Board of Rabbis to people who call in for answers to questions about Jewish beliefs and practices, who need rabbinic services, who require bereavement counseling, or simply want more information about Judaism.

A Place of Solidarity

In an era of increasing divisiveness, partisanship and denominationalism when polarization has increased and differences of theology and Halakhah have sharpened, the Toronto Board of Rabbis continues to serve as a bridge across troubled waters. It is our goal to rise above partisan bickering and factionalism by working for our common good. We accomplish this by serving all Jews irrespective of religious orientation and as result the Toronto Board of Rabbis acts as place of solidarity. It is a place where rabbis learn there is more that unites than divides them and where colleagues can work together despite whatever differences we have.
